Here you will find information through links to other relevant websites offering advice and information to parents, guardians and Carers of children and young people. The services we offer to parents are Parenting Skills Workshops & Personal Development Courses, Counselling Services, Life & Parent Coaching face to face or over the telephone, Qualified Mentoring Skills For Youth Training and Speech & Language Therapy for Children.

Mentoring can make a positive contribution towards identifying barriers & unlocking potential in Children & Young People!

Key findings from some research conducted by academics from a leading University in England on a mentoring Scheme offering targeted support to some children and young people aged between 11 and 14 years old, living in a deprived urban setting in the U.K.

Evidence of a positive impact upon the attitudes and behaviour of young people involved.
Positive impact recorded in terms of improved attendance and attitudes to schooling.
Furthermore improved attendance was maintained in the Six-month period after the project.
Similar indications of improvement were recorded in respect of school exclusions.
The strength of the mentoring project was perceived to be its Community basis.
Mentors were familiar with the communities of young people and were independent of school and social services.
Mentors familiarity with the available facilities in the local communities and socio-cultural influences enabled them to provide a realistic perspective of what young people could access or achieve.
The informal mentor-mentee relationship resulted in developing supportive and constructive relationships which may not be achieved in more structured situations.

Mentoring can make a positive contribution to supporting young people as part of a package of initiatives when managed through effective inter-agency collaboration.

In the first 4 weeks of its mentoring delivery from July 2008, Purpose For Living's Mentoring Solutions has already begun to produce outstanding results in engaging young people, identifying their barriers to learning and achieving, and unlocking their potential for successful achievement.
